Two MCP packages exist and they are not interchangeable. This page is @scienter/mcp, the package that talks to the hosted API at scienter.xyz with an sc_ key. @scienter/mcp-server is the self-hosted server that talks to your own running Scienter instance with its own key file. A key for one does nothing on the other.

What it is

Eight read-only questions about a blockchain address, answered over HTTPS by the Scienter API, exposed to any MCP client. No Python, no repository checkout, no local service, one runtime dependency. Every answer arrives with its state attached, and the tools render a non-answer more loudly than an answer, so a model cannot quietly substitute a prior for a check that never ran.

Connect the hosted server (no install)

The same eight tools are served at https://scienter.xyz/mcp (streamable HTTP). You paste a key; nothing is installed. Get a free key (50 lookups) at scienter.xyz/mcp, or a plan key at scienter.xyz/settings/api. Claude Code
Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json)
Claude Desktop (claude_desktop_config.json, through the mcp-remote bridge, which needs Node)
Claude.ai and ChatGPT connectors need OAuth sign-in, which is not built yet.

Limits

A request carries at most three tool calls, run one after another. A limit reached is an HTTP 429 with Retry-After; nothing is checked and nothing is charged.

Install

The package is built and tested but not yet on the npm registry, so there is no install line to paste today. This page carries the client config the day it is published; scienter.xyz/mcp shows the publication status.
  1. Activate a plan at scienter.xyz/pricing and create a key at scienter.xyz/settings/api. Keys are prefixed sc_, shown once, and expire after 90 days.
  2. Until the package is published, the same eight answers are one request away over the hosted API, with the same key:
Once published, the server is added to claude_desktop_config.json for Claude Desktop, .mcp.json for Claude Code, and .cursor/mcp.json for Cursor, with SCIENTER_API_KEY in its env block.

The eight tools

What it will never do

  • Render an unreachable upstream as an empty result.
  • Say “not sanctioned”. A searched miss is a finding about one list on one date.
  • Restate “two hops from a listed address” as “sanctioned”, or “no registry bridge touched” as “never bridged”.
  • Fall back to a cache, a default, or a prior. A failure produces an error a human can act on and nothing that resembles data.

Errors you may see

Scienter analyses public blockchain records. A finding states what those records show and how confident we are; it is evidence, not proof of anyone’s identity, intent or wrongdoing, and an attribution we cite is the cited source’s. An empty result means not analysed, never safe. Nothing here is legal, tax or investment advice, or a recommendation to transact with any address or asset — see Disclaimers for the full text.
